Traffic Police Department informs drivers about regular checks in Nizhny Novgorod region, Russia
Regular checks have resulted in the fact that the percentage of drunk drivers has increase over the last few months. That is why regular check will be mad e starting from the 27th of September in Nizhny Novgorod. Then such checks will be made all over the region. The information is officially provided by the Regional Traffic Police Department media office.

Drunk drivers are the main reason of high number of car accidents which take place all over the region and Russia. The latest statistics proves this fact. More than 530 thousand accidents in 2014 were caused by drunk drivers. 72 people died in these accidents and 737 were injured.

Weekends are considered to be the most dangerous for pedestrians. That is why traffic police department decided to start their check last Saturday on the 27th of September. Regular checks mean that police officers are allowed stopping every driver on a specific part of highway. Driver’s conditions are checked very thoroughly.

At the same time we should also pay your attention in penalties which are provided by Russian Traffic Laws. If driver is caught drunk, he will be left without driving license and will not be allowed driving for one and a half year. At the same time he will also have to pay a 30 thousand ruble fine. In some cases a driver can be even put behind the bars for 15 day period. Unfortunately, such measures do not stop some citizens of Nizhny Novgorod. That is why about 18.5 thousand accidents have taken place in the capital of Volga region during 2014 which is 1.5 thousand more in comparison with the last year.
