Teachers’ salary decrease is unavoidable in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia

Subsidies which are provided to Nizhny Novgorod for development of educational field as well as completing all necessary duties has been decreased by 5%. This can have a negative influence on the average salary of local teachers. This information was provided by the Director of Education Department in the City Administration Irina Tarasova. The Head of the department reported that decision on reducing the amount of subsidies has been taken in August. However notification has been received recently. At the same time member of the City Council Igor Bogdanov paid attention to the fact that the situation can become even worse in December. In case money are not returned to the city, teachers will not only have their salaries decreased, the will also have to close all additional classes and groups. Eventually they may be left without salaries at all. Reduction of subventions will certainly have a negative effect on teachers’ salary. This is due to the fact that all funds from the budget have been spent on wages and other costs which are required by educational process. These costs can’t be changed, they will remain the same. Tarasova said that local authorities are working hard in order to find solution to this problem. At the same time she does not see the way out of this situation at the moment. | |
