Russia: FMS law about second citizenship has come into force

Law of federal Migration Service about second citizenship has come into force on the 17th of August. This law has specified form in according to which all necessary information must be provided to FMS. Both FMS and post office will accept documents. These documents must not be notarized. A notice can be given on territory of Russian federation only. If a citizen lives abroad for a long time, he does not need to give a notice to FMS about his second citizenship. This must be done only in case a citizen is planning to move back to Russia. According to the law if a person is not able to give a notice to FMS, every occasion will be considered individually in order not to create inconveniences. At the same time citizens of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan do not have to provide any documents of give a notice. That is due to the fact that there is already an agreement between these countries and Russia regarding second citizenship. It should also be mentioned that criminal liability for hiding second citizenship has come into force since 4th of August.
