Russia: Building conflict on Kovalihinskaya Street has erupted with new force

Building conflict has erupted with new force on Kovalihinskaya Street, Nizhny Novgorod. According to “Nizhny Novgorod Delovoy Kvartal” City Administration investment policy and relations commission has provided "Stroyconsulting” company with land. However the purpose is not for building 18-floor block of flats. The company will be able to use this territory only for building kindergarten. At the same time company will be able to rent adjacent territory till the 19th of September 2015.

At first City Administration was able to provide building company with an alternative land in another part of Nizhny Novgorod region. This was the only way to please civil protestors who are against this project. Now representatives of City Administration say that project will be implemented within an integrated development of the territory.

Chairman of Nizhny Novgorod Public Council Maria Popova noted that the case has not been closed yet and it is still in the court. The main reason for this is that Ministry of Federal estate has not prolonged the investment agreement.

All this has resulted in a very controversy situation. On the one hand local authorities make building company bring this territory to the way it used to be. On the other hand they provide this land for building of kindergarten.

This situation led to the fact that local citizens have sent an open letter to Vladimir Putin, the Head of City Administration Oleg Kondrashev and the Head of Nizhny Novgorod region Valery Shantsev.
