Gudkov collected voices against indirect elections in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia
Special law has been establishes in spring 2013. In accordance with this law every region has right to choose between direct or indirect elections of the regional authorities. Gudkov who is a state deputy at the moment is against indirect elections. This is due to the fact that they are not able to reflect the overall opinion of citizens. It only represents interests and choice of regional authorities which is not right.

Referendum has been arranged fr om the 13th of June to 16th of July 2014. The main idea of this referendum was to return nationwide elections of mayor. The results are very clear. The majority of participants are also against indirect elections. More than 52 000 votes were for accepting nationwide elections while only 2 5487 votes were against such initiative. Gudkov also said that there were attempts to disrupt elections along with provocations. 1 093 citizens were forced to vote for the second time due to spoiled ballots.

Deputy of State Duma of Russian federation has already visited Nizhny Novgorod in September 2013. He shared his opinion about the fact that indirect elections should be canceled. Gudkov voted for nationwide elections of regional authorities including the head of the region. Moreover he accused Oleg Sorokin of malpractice. Gudkov has already sent a letter to Sorokin wh ere he asked to provide clear information about results of referendum and follow the will of people.

The problem of nationwide elections has not been solved yet.
