Fortnite-maker gets vocal support from Microsoft against Apple
Since Epic Games took up the gauntlet against Apple, we've seen raining statements of support from other tech companies. After, among other things, Facebook and the company behind dating app Tinder openly stated that they have difficulty with Apple's Commission policy, where Apple receives up to 30 percent commission of purchases made within apps, Microsoft also interferes with the heated debate.

Microsoft fears that the battle between Apple and Epic will affect the entire game industry. After Epic launched a new payment system that bypasses the mandatory payment to Apple, the two companies are at odds. In response, Apple removed Epics hit Fortnite from the App Store.

New documents submitted by Epic to the court show that Apple also claims to withdraw support to the Unreal Engine, which is the technical Toolbox also used by other game developers to develop their games. The withdrawal of that licence, which is also opposed by Microsoft, is scheduled for 28 August. Apple – and also Google-stresses that the ‘app tax’ is necessary to ensure "the safety" of the app stores.
