4 000 smokers have been fined in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia
In accordance to information provided by General Directorate and Protection of Public order in Nizhny Novgorod region 4 000 administrative law violators have been fined for smoking in public places. Anti-smoking law has come into forces on the 15th of September 2013. Those who do not obey this law will have to pay a fine which can vary from 1 500 to 3 000 rubles. This includes not only smoking in public places but also playgrounds for children.

92% of all violators were individuals. The rest of them are companies and enterprises which do not provide their employees with s special place for smoking. At the same time these companies do not follow existing standards. Overall there have been 3 985 violators of anti-smoking law.

The main idea of such law is to protect people from harmful consequences of smoking as well as health of the citizens. It should also be noted that smoking is rather expensive nowadays. People spend money not only on cigarettes but also on treatment courses in order to avoid health problems which are caused by nicotine.
